Abstract
Cancer often causes symptoms, and the treatments for cancer may cause side effects. An important part of cancer care is relieving these symptoms and side effects, an approach called palliative care. Palliative care is any treatment that focuses on reducing a patient’s symptoms, improving quality of life, and supporting patients and their families. In order to anticipate the increasing need for care correctly, experts believe that it is important to have a proactive approach right at the start of the palliative care continuum. Opioid preparations are available for patients at the end of life. Turkey has a colour coded prescription system; red prescription sheets for opioids, green for sedatives and opioid derivatives like Tramadol. White prescription sheets are used for all other drugs. In Turkey, only Specialist Medical Doctor has capability of using red and green prescription sheet. There is no Turkish hospice palliative care association yet, but it is set up as a subgroup for working palliative care nurses, as a brunch of Turkish Oncology Nursing Association. To carry out the control services of cancer, to provide the coordination and inspection studies of organizations and institutions giving service in this field.
