Health Promotion and Health Literacy
Health promotion and health literacy are foundational to achieving better health outcomes at both the individual and community levels. This session will highlight the pivotal role of nurses as educators, advocates, and facilitators of behavioral change and preventive care in diverse populations.Nurses are uniquely positioned to lead health promotion efforts by providing clear, accurate, and culturally appropriate health education that empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their well-being. This session will explore strategies for enhancing health literacy, such as using plain language communication, visual aids, community workshops, and digital platforms to bridge knowledge gaps.Key topics will include chronic disease prevention, nutrition education, physical activity promotion, substance abuse prevention, and sexual and reproductive health awareness. Participants will also examine methods for assessing literacy levels, identifying misinformation, and designing inclusive educational interventions tailored to different age groups, cultural backgrounds, and socioeconomic statuses.The session will also address the broader social determinants of health and how nurses can advocate for policy changes that support healthier environments and lifestyles.
